Negativity?
Posted on April/25/2012 With 2 notes

I realised that lately, a lot of people are quick to define my blog and its topics as “negative” and something they would generally not want to follow. Sure, realising the state of affairs in your country and how it marginalises minorities is not the happiest topic to blog about, but it is what I choose to blog about because I like to be informed.

There are days when I really can’t pull myself out of a funk because all of this really weighs me down, the idea that the overruling institution is pretty much against you, but it is knowledge that I think everyone needs and requires.

I guess this is more of a sarcastic apology to people who would much rather look at kawaii buroggus all day rather than listen to discourse that is anti-racist and anti-sexist.

You have the choice of what you want to follow, but I hate it when people go around saying “oh your blog is so negative” in an attempt to force me to change it in a way. Just stop. Sure, sometimes I rebagle cute things or blog about my food, but this is just an overall general blog that I dictate. You can go through my other tags (photography, art, food, what have it) if you would prefer to avoid certain topics. In fact, I make entirely separate Tumblrs for my different fascinations so people won’t get so offended.

Cute stuff? Go here.
Funny stuff? Go here.
NSFW sexual stuff? Go here.

But this blog is mainly for original material or ones that delve into social justice. I post mostly my own photography and discourse on here, and that’s just the way I like it. I am okay with my sparse number of followers and would much rather have my awesome tight-knit group of people rather than thousands of people who scoff at me when I steer off of a “topic” they want to see.

Just stop.

Other blogs I run.

I have a whole slew of Tumblrs, figured I’d put them all here. =) I have one I try to write totally in Japanese to practice, a very NSFW hentai/funny blog, a blog I run with a bunch of friends, and more~ Here is the whole list.

The rest are private and locked because I just use them as diaries or ways to talk to certain people, haha~ Hope you enjoy!

It’s about time I actually got around to doing this… When did I get this, like last year?Anyways, here goes nothing!
I have huge soft spots for Oreos dipped in milk, Nutella, and Yoohoo. Someday I want pieces of clothing related to them all. (I JUST bought something with Nutella on it actually.)
I’ve started drawing T-shirt designs as of this week, and it’s really starting to become addictive. I think if I can print enough shirts, I may just sell a couple at the convention I am planning!
I have a 3x6 foot walk-in closet absolutely packed full with clothes and shoes of various different styles. I’m probably going to Goodwill a quarter of it soon enough and keep getting more. *3*
I realised how much I miss film photography and instant photography and recently splurged on purchases relating to it. Hope to get some really cute cameras to tote around on my little adventures.
I’ve pretty much accepted the fact that I’m a hipster. Not the hissy-fit throwing, cultural appropriating kind, but the kind that enjoys lesser known fashion, older things, vintage shopping, and grassroots movements and music.
I’m a social justice bitch. Please move on.
Nothing makes me happier than meeting another queer and discussing queer politics with them. I’ve been meeting more in person and my heart is just swelling!!
I admit it, I enjoy talking about myself. *shrug*
I am terrible with money, absolutely terrible. I really worry for my financial stability when I graduate in a couple months. D=
I am sick and tired of labels but still use them a lot because the world is not ready for language without labels. Like Gloria Anzaldua said, you will only end up being stomped on if you do not identify those certain parts of your being that are important to you, whether you are queer, a feminist, or a person of colour. So until people don’t need those labels anymore, I will continue to label.

I think I have way too many. D= And they’re just starting to pile up as I take more electives this term and get more time to myself. So now where are we?

  • Japanese street fashion (which include Cult Party Kei, Lolita, Mori Girl, etc.)
  • General hipster fashion (nerdy looks, space, NOT including cultural appropriations like Native American headdresses and Buddhist symbology printed on shoes etc.)
  • Photography (instant photography quickly coming up on that list)
  • Writing (and now I actually like to write poems too! Goddammit…)
  • Drawing (this has been here since I was young, it’ll never go away.)
  • Collecting vintage books and toys
  • Video games (something I’ve given up because of a lack of money, but I started played Secret of Mana again ARGH—not to mention Trine 2)
  • Cooking (a more recent development in the past two or three years, but has quickly started to dominate my routine)

And the list can go on… Urgh, how can I focus my interests in one place when they just keep spreading further and further? Not to mention I have no money to support half of these interests… I started to hand-make my clothes but I still want to buy another camera and a tonne of film to go with it. And collecting anything vintage is so expensive nowadays… Ah… To find more hours in the day…

solarflight asked: Do you have a favorite store in the US? Favorite store or clothing brand in Japan?

Ugh, I hate how I can’t queue asks anymore. D= TUMBLR BETTER FIX THIS. But onto the topic…

It’s really pricey, but lately I’ve fallen in love with Sinclaire 10, it’s a cheaper designer that Saks Fifth Avenue tends to stock. The clothes are beautifully made, have this vintage flair to it, and are about the price of most burando lolita dresses compared to thousands of dollars like most brands stocked in Saks. D= I can’t seem to find a good website to link you to though. D= I also love Forever21 too for the more wearable pieces that aren’t so fancy.

Hmm, my favorite clothing brand in Japan… That’s a toughie. I love well-made clothing, so I really like the gothic and classic brands. I’d also kill for more clothes from Spank! in my wardrobe though, so adorable. ;___;

Favorite Tumblrs.

It’s Follow Friday, plus I wanted to make a list of my favorite Tumblrs if anyone is looking for a new blog to follow. I absolutely love all of these from the bottom of my heart! I can’t guarantee that all of these blogs are 100% work safe, but most of the time they are. =)

  • thisisnotpsychology: An amazing Tumblr about how people trivialize mental disorders, and what to say to those who are struggling with them.

tiawantstobattle asked: I kept meaning to ask you, what does etoile mean?

It means “star” in French. Translated literally, my username is “star and canvas.” =) (Of course, it’s not grammatically correct at all because the particles are missing, but I liked how it sounded and looked the way it is.)

amibellasama asked: Hi, do you mind me asking what ethnicity you are? :)

Both of my parents are South Indian (Bangalore/Andhra), and I was born and raised in the US. =)

ugobeast asked: The fact that I can;t right clock sucks, because sometime I want to open something in a new tab, to finish reading later, but I can't are you really having that much of a problem with people stealing your content?

Aww, I’m sorry you’re having a problem with the right click thing. And in some of my other blogs, I’ve had people repost a lot of my things on their own without proper credit, so I will probably keep it that way, sorry. =( Sometimes it’s annoying for me too, but I just want to take extra precautions.

If you have a mouse with a click wheel, clicking down on it will do the same thing and open things up in a new tab, so you can always do that as an alternative?

Sorry for the inconvenience, I’m just sick of not being credited. ;___; Hope you enjoy my blog despite that though! =D

I try to keep my blog as focused as possible and not post too much at a time as to not flood everyone’s dashboards. This blog is going to be completely safe for work image-wise, but there may be some cursing and topics that may offend the senses from time to time. I’m generally going to write reviews for things, take photos of my cooking and share recipes, and of course, sprinkle in some feminist ranting here and there.

Personally, I’m not into mush. Don’t expect to see cute stories about how much I love a friend/boyfriend etc. It doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate those things, I just don’t see the point in rehashing how awesome and amazing it is to have those relationships. I’d rather focus on other things. The significant people in my life know how I feel already, I’m not going to spend time talking about it here.

With that being said, I also don’t really plan to talk about myself very much, unless relating to other things. I don’t like to share too much about myself on the internet, call me old-fashioned, but that includes any pictures of my face or solid details about my location.

Quick links:

  • You can look at my favorites, which aren’t the same as my “likes.” These are basically posts that I found memorable.
  • My photography: under “snapshots” on the main page
  • Any art by me: under “art.”
  • Photos of my food, recipes, restaurant reviews: under “yummy.”
  • Any rant or review is under “rant.” This includes my feminist ranting as well as any sort of discussion about something I’ve seen or played recently (in terms of movies, books, and video games)
  • I also have a shopping tag, but I don’t use it too often/it’s not really of as much importance to me, so it’s not on the front page. If you’re interested in seeing the last few things I purchased though, have at it.

Hope you stick around! ♥
